Actually there are some clipper blades that are made from stainless steel these days and you can wash those in soap and water, but there are still a bunch around that are made from high carbon steel and those rust easily and cannot be cleaned in water unless you are taking them apart. You can use a solvent like odorless mineral spirits to be clean carbon steel blade assemblies. Take care to buy stainless steel if you are going new blades.
